Alexx Carnathan is 16 years old and a junior in high school. She began playing the piano at age 2-1/2 years and was taking lessons by age 5. She has an evergrowing portfolio of original compositions, composing her first when she was 6 years old. She also enjoys playing music from her favorite artists in addition to working on expanding her classical repertoire.
Alexx's musical interests include jazz, new age, pop, classical, her own compositions, and singing. Born with ‘perfect pitch’, Alexx is able to accurately identify the pitch of any given tone and individual notes, played simultaneously in any chord. About composing Alexx says, “I hear music in my head and I can just sit down and play whatever I hear. What I hear is what I am. Everything I think of fits my personality somehow - jazzy, mellow, soft, etc.”.
Alexx performs at many local Portland events and concerts, including the first three“Ten Grands” concerts in February 2001, April 2002, April 2003, and again on April 7, 2007 as a 'special guest' performer in which she wrote a 10-piano composition for the show entitled "Ten Grands Rag". The "Ten Grands" concerts are held at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall in Portland, Oregon, where she has performed together on stage with nine other professional Northwest pianists, including: Michael Allen Harrison, David Lanz, Tom Grant, John Nilsen, Michael Kaeshammer, Janice Scroggins, Rosa Li, Dena DeRose, Katerina Cramarciuc, and others. Alexx has also been fortunate to be a guest in many of Michael Allen Harrison’s concerts and events, including the past 7 years in Michael's annual 'Christmas Concert Series at The Old Church' in downtown Portland, Oregon. She studied under Michael for five years, and is currently taking instruction with Arletta O’Hearn from Beaverton, Oregon.
Alexx recorded her first full-length CD in December 2003, called “Daydreams and Waterfalls”, with thirteen of her own original compositions. She is currently working on her 2nd CD.
Alexx enjoys high school, friends, family, performing, choir, robotics, art, drawing, pets, computers, manga, TV and videos, everything Japan, and shopping.
